SINGING IN TONGUES AND ECSTASY
This CD was inspired by multi-cultural mythologies, elements in Nature and the concepts of the transpersonal psychology exploring the internal landscape of self, humanity, earth and cosmos. Each song was offered as a sonic prayer and a sound journey for the listeners to pass the gateway and to be connected in a deeper intimacy with the self, humanity, earth and cosmos. Akasa's ethereal and haunting vocals were sung in a fictional language woven with the musical accompaniment of San Francisco Bay Area musicians: multi-instrumentalist Robert Powell, Charles Mosell, harpists Bruce Kurnow and Dianna Stork and keyboardist John Steiner in an eclectic mix of pedal harp, pedal steel, e-bow, folk harp, shakuhachi, bansuri flute, Jew's harp and percussion. Three songs were recorded with tenor William Hannibal Means who was Nina Simone's singing partner.
